In the ever-expanding world of social media, there are some important names to know. The benefit of this is that when someone has clicked the Google+1 button on an offered link, their name will show up under search results to any Google+ friends who see the same link as a recommendation. In other words, if someone does a Google search and comes across a link that four of their friends have enjoyed and clicked the button, it will be noted below the link that those four people recommended it. Link counts can include friends whose names are only readable to that user and total numbers of those who have clicked the +1 to recommend a page. The higher the click count, the more reputable and relevant a page is considered.

The purpose of SEO is for sites to be seen as quickly as possible by web crawlers, indexed as quickly as possible, and then potentially seen by as many people as possible. The way that using the Google+1 button can enhance SEO efforts is simple - when people recommend pages, friends are more likely to look themselves. It is a slow process, as is most SEO strategy done correctly; however, over time such views become more relevant +1s, more site back links, higher search rankings, and eventually higher conversion rates. Basically, Google is trying to be sure that those clicks actually have meaning and are not being placed by those trying to artificially elevate a website's link status.

A great feature about the +1 button is that once clicked, that click remains with that website. This is especially beneficial to links that lead to high quality content and deserve a positive rating that adds up over time and remains with the link. Facebook 'likes' are generally seen when passing through a user's feed and then the post and all those 'likes' disappear. The number of likes remain buried with the post on Facebook or the website which doesn't help when searching on browsers for information. Remembering one link out of hundreds seen daily is highly unreliable; the +1 button essentially remembers this and will show up every time that link does in search results. This is called efficiency +1.
While there are more and more social media buttons showing at the bottom of every web page or blog post, some are definitely more worthwhile than others. It is being discovered that Google+1 is one of those that should be right next to the Facebook 'like' button. It is indeed a great benefit that can help increase visibility - which is after all the whole reason for being online in the first place!
